2012 Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2012 Roy Estate Cabernet Sauvignon opens up to notes of rose petals, blackberry jam and cocoa followed by tobacco, bing cherries and a touch of pencil shavings. In the mouth, a soft attack of shaved dark chocolate, sweet vanilla, mocha and caramel adds great complexity to the beautiful dark fruit. The mid-palate weight is layered & well balanced with seductive and silky integrated tannins evolving to some smoke notes coming from the new Taransaud French Oak. This expressive and harmonious cabernet is a stellar expression of this unique mini-valley vineyard location, leaving us with that signature powerful, long and lingering ROY finish.

It delivers on many different levels, a true expression of both the vintage and ROY Estate. On the palate, masculine notes of black pepper, flint, dark chocolate and black tea are combined with an alluring hint of clove and French oak derived vanilla characteristics harmoniously bringing great richness, texture and depth. The finish is lengthy with fine tannins and a beautifully polished texture.

2011 Cabernet Sauvignon

Mother Nature not only set the pace for 2011, but also dictated extremely low yields. ROY harvested 16 tons (less than 1 ton per acre, 1 cluster per shoot). We crafted a very special wine that is distinctive with beautiful body and color, very refined & super expressive. There is an intensity in the nose that just jumps out of the glass. These aromatics reveal red fruit, wild berries, chocolate cherry and a little floral that is layered with sweeter dried herb and underforest notes in the background. Complimenting the fruit aromatics are very expressive aromas that include French vanilla oak, almond, nutmeg and exotic spices with layers of stone minerality that really explode from the glass. The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is so very interesting and intriguing both aromatically and texturally on the palate; finishing with those signature ROY silky and smooth tannins. It’s got wonderful richness, good mouth feel, intense precision, elegance as harmonious, layered and polished. A very unique expressive wine crafted in a very unique challenging vintage. People are going to really enjoy this wine!

2011 Proprietary Red Wine

The Roy Estate vineyard produced two solid wines in 2011. From a very difficult and challenging winemaking vintage the extremely low yields produced Roy’s signature aromatics with purity of flavor, depth, and finesse. This wine fills the glass with dense rich fruit aromas of raspberries, dark blackberries, rose petal, chocolate, sage, mint, & anise. Bright notes of French vanilla, mocha and caramel explode from the glass, adding many levels of complexity to the intriguing fruit aromas. It exhibits those approachable soft rounded tannins with a silky integration of great layers, richness and depth with that wonderful long, lingering finish. Another beautiful expression of Roy.

It delivers purity of flavor, richness and depth with finesse. Well rounded in the mouth, it exhibits plenty of vibrancy and charms with a wonderful bouquet of violet, fresh crushed rocks, blue and black fruits and exotic spices. 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon is very expressive with notes of perfume, floral, spice, mineral and blackberry that are layered beautifully together. The dry and cold spring induced small yields with small berry size and light clusters which created some amazingly concentrated wines. The very mild summer helped develop complex aromatics as well. The nose reveals intense yet refined flavors of polished flowers (violet and rose petals), cranberry and black licorice. This beautiful complex and aromatic mix is complimented by a seductive mouthfeel with loads of black fruits, fresh stones and spices seamlessly integrated with layers of expressive, refined tannins and a long, lingering finish.
For optimum enjoyment of this wine, please decant and serve at about 64 ºF.

2008 Proprietary Red Wine

From the estate, the very low yield of 2008 helped produce this remarkable, concentrated and sophisticated wine. Making wines since 2005, this site continues to amaze my palate by its finesse, purity of flavor, depth and European style. The powerful nose of rose petal, violet, sweet cherry, scorched earth and spices is extremely inviting. The mouthfeel is muscular and concentrated with layers of polished and fresh flavors of black and red cherry, black currant, forest scents, and chocolate finishing with refined tannins. This complex wine is beautiful now and will continue to engage & evolve.
